International Zoological Congress of “Grigore Antipa” Museum

Dear colleagues,

On Saturday, November 24th, we will organize a field trip in a woodland area in Ghimpați, Giurgiu County.

In the morning we will visit the Ghimpați Pheasantry (located in Ghimpați Forest), one of the oldest in Romania with a tradition of over 90 years. After this visit, we will be transported to the Albele Forest and we will walk some 4 km through the forest during which we will have the chance to observe and admire the autumn nature. We will reach the Albele Chalet where a traditional lunch will be served. The main attraction will be whole lamb roasted on a spit and tender lamb chops with a side dish of seasoned baked potatoes. All served dishes will be accompanied by local wines and spirits (țuică).

In the afternoon, we will go to special forestry observatories in the woods, where hopefully we will have the opportunity to watch some wildlife (most likely wild boar and roe deer).

We advise you to bring outdoor gear (boots, winter coat / rain coat, warm trousers and sweater, etc.) as the November weather in Romania can get cold and rainy, especially in wooded areas.

The fee for the field trip is 20 EURO or 90 RON/person. Transport, refreshments, and lunch are included.
